The study of elements and compounds’ properties, compositions, and structures, as well as how they can change and the energy that is released or absorbed during such changes, is the subject matter of the science known as chemistry.
The scope of chemistry
The days of expecting one person to be an expert in every field of chemistry are long gone. People who are interested in particular branches of chemistry interact with others who have similar interests. A group of chemists who have specific research interests over time establish themselves as the pioneers of a field of expertise. The specialties that first developed in the history of chemistry, such as organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, industrial, and biology, continue to be of the most public interest. However, the 20th century saw significant advancements in the fields of polymer, environmental, and pharmaceutical chemistry. Additionally, new specialties keep emerging, such as computer, forensic, and pesticide chemistry.
